If you’ve ever wanted to play Texas Hold’em poker, then this is the society to join. Believe it or not, it’s just like Snap, except slightly harder. The reason for creating a Poker Soc was due to the increasing interest in Texas Hold’em. Our aim is to give students a safe outlet to develop this hobby in a challenging and controlled manner and also make new friends and develop new social networks. If you’re a beginner, don’t worry you’ll be shown how to play, it’s actually surprisingly easy. You don’t necessarily have to have a good hand, if you can bluff really well, you can win. We hope to hold weekly tournaments, with a prize for each table in attendance. You will be grouped in a way that you will be playing with people of the same skill as yourself so you have a chance of winning. A league table will be produced culminating in a special poker game at the end of each semester. Meetings and Poker nights will be held every week with all members being reminded via text. Last year, the society held weekly Poker nights in Clem Smiths bar in town. They organised and won a poker tournament against L.I.T and donated money to Milford Hospice. They won Best New Society in the MISU Society Awards. So go on, join the Poker Society.
