The aim of the Clubs & Society awards is to recognise and celebrate those students, clubs and societies who have achieved outstanding success during the year. The winners of the Society awards go forward to represent Mary I at the BICS National Awards.
BICS Awards
What is BICS?
BICS is the Board of Irish College Societies. The Board of Irish College Societies is a National organisation, constituted in 1995, which is dedicated to providing a national forum for the societies in Ireland’s Universities, Colleges and Institutes of Education and is responsible for the promotion of interest in the activities of Irish college societies and of contact and co-operation between them. The BICS National Society Awards
The aim of the National Awards is to reward the huge effort made by many individuals to provide a brilliant quality of society activity to student members. It is also a time to celebrate the vital importance and value which societies and their activities bring to college life. All members of BICS are entitled to nominate for all categories.
BICS Awards In The Past
In April 2009, the Mary Immaculate Dramatic Arts Society, (MIDAS), won the Best Society Event Award for their production of Disney's Aladdin, which was designed, choreographed and directed by the student members of MIDAS. The production included an original song with lyrics and music composed by Co-Director & Final Year BA student Claire O’Brien. Choreography for the musical was by students Pamela McGlynn and Annalise Hurley. Annalise who is currently a second year B. Ed. student teaches hip‐hop to children at the High Voltage School of Dance and sings with the Bunratty singers and has performed on TG4, TV3 and NBC Today Live.
In April 2010, the One World Society, who organise 'One World Week' in Mary I, as well as 'Fairtrade Fortnight' came first for 'Civic Involvement'. The One World Soc were also the driving force behind Mary I being branded a Fairtrade college.
