Clubs & Socs Council

The Purpose of Clubs & Socs Council
Things to Remember

Clubs & Socs Council will endeavour to provide a forum for clubs/ societies to seek advice, to share information and for the Clubs & Societies Officer to inform clubs/ socs on financial and general matters and aid in the development of the societies. It is organised for the Committee representatives of all Clubs/ Societies to meet at least once every four weeks of each semester up until and including week 12 to offer your views on the improvement and development of Clubs/ Societies to the Clubs/ Societies Officer. It is a very good opportunity to interact with all other clubs/ society representatives on behalf of your own Club/ Society. It can facilitate the running of joint events with other societies and is also a great way to publicise your upcoming events! You may also voice any concerns or grievances with any aspect of the administration of Clubs/ Societies. It may also act as the vehicle by which policies, rules and regulations for the improvement of Clubs/ Societies administration are presented and acted upon.It is hoped that going forward the Clubs & Socs Council will enable clubs/ societies themselves to determine clubs/ societies policy so that everyone can work together in a way that benefits clubs and societies overall. So basically, you can decide what happens to your club/ soc!

The purpose of Clubs & Socs Council:
To facilitate the organisation of Clubs & Socs Day in both Semester 1 and 2
To facilitate the establishment of committee member elections
To establish times, dates and places of Training
To give any reports due to the Clubs & Societies Officer
To ensure that all club/society events are run smoothly

Things to remember!
At least two committee members from each club/ soc MUST attend each Clubs & Socs Council. Clubs/Societies may choose to nominate two people to represent it at Council meetings at the start of the semester or choose the two committee members before each Council meet. Non-attendance at Clubs & Socs Council will jeopardise club/ society funding.

The Administration Committee will impose a fine of €50 on each individual club/ society if they fail to send at least one member to each Clubs & Socs Council Meeting. A club/ society may be exempt from attending one meeting in the academic year. However, an apology has to be sent to the Students Union prior to 4:30pm on the day of the meeting to avail of this exemption. All meetings shall be governed, by the Standing Orders as outlined, in Schedule One of the Mary I Students Union Constitution. The Clubs & Societies Officer reserves the right to convene additional Clubs & Socs Council Meetings should they be deemed necessary. All such meetings must be organised with at least one academic or three non-academic weeks notice.

The Committee members in attendance at Council meetings MUST relay back to its own committee members the findings/ discussion/ policies of the Council.
