Hi everyone,
It's Darragh here, just updating you on some of next week's events!
There will be a referendum held next Tuesday on whether or not to introduce a levy of €35 per student for 5 years to fund an on campus careers service. It's up to you the students to have your say on this so please read up on it and make an informed decision on it!
More information is available here:
www.misu.ie/index.php/maryilive/news/2252-careers-levy-referendum-26th-march
By elections for Welfare Officer and Postgraduate Officer also take place next Tuesday.
Those who are not on campus next Tuesday can vote online but they have to send an email to

asap to request a ballot!
Before all of that the annual Student Awards Evening are taking place on Monday evening at 6 in the TARA forum. IT was a great occasion this year and it's important to celebrate some of the great achievemnets of our students this year. Class rep certificates, Awards for Excellence and the Mary I Society Awards will all be presented. This will be followed by a reception in the SU lounge.
Of course, we have to get through the 1st year Ball tonight and Mary I Ball tomorrow night before we can start thinking about next week. I hope you all have great nights!
All the best,
Darragh

Hi everyone,
Welcome back and welcome to Mary I to this semester’s new students! I hope you had a great week 1.
Library Opening Hours
First of all, from last Monday, the library now opens at the earlier time of 9am. This is a very welcome development and the library staff put a lot of work into making this happen.
Parking
From next Monday, the car parking arrangements are changing. The free car park and €3 car park are swapping so the car park nearest to the library will now cost €3 and the one beside Summerville will be free.
Elections
Elections for this semester are taking place in week 6 on Thursday 7th March. Nominations will open on Friday February 22nd and close on March 1st at 5:00pm.
We are also looking for a returning officer to run the elctions. Those interested in applying for the job can get an application form here.
Mary I Ball
We are also looking for people interested in sitting on the Mary I Ball organising committee. The first meeting will be held on Wednesday 6th February at 6 in the SU.
Super Thursday
RAG week is taking place in week 4 and we will be announcing the line up next Thursday.
Wired FM are broadcasting live from the Lounge that day and we will be announcing some bits of the line up throughout the day with the full line up being announced at our RAG week quiz in Scott’s next Thursday night. The first prize for that quiz are Golden Tickets for Rag week which will include entry to all events, loads of freebies throughout the week and tickets to another big event we have coming up in March!
Wired FM will also be giving away 2 Golden Tickets on air next Thursday. There will be free pizza in the lounge and the Moody Cow Van will be back on campus.
The Senior Hurlers are playing in the Fitzgibbon cup this year for the first time in 10 years. They are playing UCC here next Thursday at 2 in their 2nd group game. It’s a huge match and we’ll be hoping that as many students as possible help to make their home advantage count.
Here is a suggested timetable for next Thursday:
12:00 Go to SU Lounge, get a Moody Cow Milkshake, chill in the Lounge listening to Wired
13:45 Go down to Tailteann to get a good spot for the match.
14:00 Begin chanting very loudly (not recommended for those not at the match or those playing)
14:35 Break from chanting, time to sneak in a milkshake or listen to more Wired if you’re quick.
14:50 Resume chanting
15:30 Pitch invasion
15:40 Back to the Lounge for some pizza more chances to win a Golden Ticket with Wired
16:30 Begin studying frantically for the RAG week quiz in Scotts
20:00 Go to Scotts with 3 other well prepared team mates
20:30 Start quiz
22:30 Start looking forward to RAG week now that the line-up has been announced
That’s it from me. If you ever need anything be sure to call into the SU!
See you all Thursday,
Darragh

Hi everyone,
It’s Darragh here, your SU president. I hope you’re all well settled in by now. I think it’s about time I put a blog entry up here!
Next week is clubs and socs week. A lot of clubs and socs are holding events at various stages throughout the week and there should be something to suit your interest! We have a poster up on our facebook page now. If you’ve an hour off at any stage, you’ll find something around the college to keep you entertained!
We are holding our first Union General Meeting of the year next Wednesday at 6pm in T118.
Every student is invited to attend. The UGM is there for every student to have their say about what work the SU officers should be doing.
Remember we’re here to represent you so if the work we’re doing is not relevant to you, we’re doing something wrong!
We’ll be posting an agenda for topics to be discussed early next week and if there is anything that you feel needs to be discussed, let us know ASAP.
The newly formed debating society will also be holding a BA vs. B Ed debate at 5pm beforehand. It should be good craic and all contributions are welcome (even from ECCE and B Ed Psych students)!
That’s it from me. Hopefully, I’ll see you at some clubs and socs week events next week and at the UGM!
And remember, if you ever have any problems, call into the SU!
All the best,
Darragh

Hi everyone,
It's Darragh your SU president here to provide you with some non-assignment related reading!
The semester has flown by and somehow assignment season is here already. I hope the stress levels aren't too high and remember if it is all too much that there are great support services on campus and we're always here in the SU if you need somebody to talk to.
If you need some motivation, Christmas Daze is taking place next Thursday 29th November in Scotts from 4pm and then in Angel Lane from 10. There's a Christmas jumper competition, Santa's Grotto and much more going on on the night. It's always a great night and tickets are on sale from Monday for €10 in the SU. The first 200 people to buy tickets get free santa hats. Remember, buying tickets in the SU helps to raise money for RAG week!
Speaking of RAG week, we have set up a suggestion box at the bottom of the TARA steps for RAG week events. There has been great input already and all suggestions are welcome though the likes of The Script, One Direction & JLS probably cost a tad more than we can afford! It's your RAG week though so we're eager to hear what you want.
That's it from me, hopefully this talk about Christmas Daze has motivated you enough to get off facebook and get back to it!
Best of luck with all the assignments,
Darragh
