Hi everyone,
Mairéad here, your MISU President. I want to extend a huge welcome to all Fresher’s and welcome back to everyone else. It’s great to have you all buzzing around the campus again; we definitely missed your presence over the summer!
Apologies for the late blog but as you can imagine the last week or two was exceptionally busy – in a good way. I believe that if at any point I am not busy, then I am not doing my job correctly.
I don’t want to spend my first blog talking about what has been going on/currently is/will be. I think everyone has been bombarded with enough info in the first week or two so I just want you to focus on one thing which I see as core element of my role as well as that of the Students’ Union.
No matter what is going on during my working day, if a student emails me, stops me in the hall, or walks into my office, they are automatically a priority.
You are the priority.
You, the students of Mary I are the reason I am here and the Students’ Union is here. So if you do see me whisking through the halls (clearly on a mission) but would love to ask/talk/rant at me then please stop me. If I could, I would like to talk to every student individually but that is not possible so I need you to stop me. So do.
I mention this as I found last year when I physically walked through the campus, usually on route to a meeting, that is when students talked to me about what is really bothering them. I can understand that is far easier to do rather than walk into the confines of my office. The reality is however that I am bound by those walls for the majority of the working day so I truly need you to connect with the avenues that are in place to express your qualms or queries.
