Welfare & Equality Officers

Week 0ne

Hey guys,

Niamh and Denis here.

This is our first weekly blog, where we plan on keeping you in the loop on what we are up to as your welfare and equality officers. Firstly to the first years and Erasmus students, we hope you enjoyed orientation week as much as we did. It was great to meet you all, and we’re glad to see you are a talkative and enthusiastic bunch.

So fresher’s week is over now, time to get down to a bit of work :( . But remember to keep enjoying yourself and to get involved with a club or society if you can.

So far, as your welfare and equality officers we have been working away behind the scenes in our tiny teeny office which we love! First thing we have done is to promote the message PleaseTalk.ie in the college. You might have noticed a colourful little badge with pleasetalk.ie in your fresher pack, or on the exec and tour guides. Hopefully everyone will these badges to promote the message of please talk. Please talk is a website which was established by a number of students in UCD in 2007. The site promotes the message that if you are experiencing problems in college, there is always someone there who you can talk to and who will listen to you. A list of contacts relevant to Mary I students is available on the website.

Talking is a sign of strength, not of weakness.

We have set up a new email address if you want to contact us directly/anonymously at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with any issues or ideas you have for us.

That’s all for now folks,

Niamh and Denis.
