Welfare Blog Update 2

Kazam! And just like that semester one is finished. All the first years about to do their first battle in the Tailtenn, the inbetweeners who now have the burden of QCA calculations for the first time and the about to leavers freaking out with the justin biber size fanclub worth of TP/FYP craic to be done...funfunfun!

But hey guys-remember, if it was easy than everyone would be doing it! Remember, you have the power to keep it together, the focus not to fail, (am, no thanks to Mary I Summer exams 2012) but most importantly you have the skill to high-five that exam into oblivion. If you are a crammer than cram the heck out of it. If you have actually studied (F.Y.I. best course of action, like OMG, you mean studying helps me to get good grades, WTF??) then everything will come good on the day. Just like Robbie Keane scoring a goal, it is a fine line between luck and skill but a balanced work ethic with some play time on the side will always give you the best possible chance to be happy with your effort.

Now remember, exam days are crazEE! It’s like cattle at mart day, all coming together looking for the farmer to herd them to safety. If you don’t want to get caught in the stampede, get to your exam at least 15 minutes before it starts and sign in. You can always sign in, head away for a while and then take your seat in your own time. When you sign in, you will be given your seat number. Your seat number is where you sit, yes the mega excitement, this is your seat for the exam. You must have your college ID when signing in otherwise the farmer will be directing you to the slaughter house. It costs 15 quid to get out of there-no thanks! Bring in as many pens/pencils/markers as you want. In every exam I have sat, I've brought in at least 6 pens and markers. I always think, today is the day I’m going to draw an amaze balls graph or a sweet, sweet diagram. Four years later, I'm still waiting to use my 6 pens and markers but hey-I'm never going to give up the hope.

So aside from the exams, semester one has come and gone quicker than an X Factor finalist but man-what a semester! All you guys helped raise heaps of money for loads of mega fantastic causes so THANK YOU all again. I know donating 1 euro is like giving up your noodle money for the week at the best of times but really, every cent does help so thank you all so, so much. The Mental Health week in the college was a huge success and as always, your brain and how it’s working is always important to us in the SU so please call down anytime if you need support. The SU has also being working hard on yer behalf to make noise against the government and all its cuts by writing letters, organizing student protests and helping you to get to Dublin for the national student protest. Thanks to all the students who took time out to fight for the cause!
Looking forward to semester two, I think it is going to off the scales to be honest. The ENTS are busy already sorting out HOT week, there is also SHAG week and loads more events to keep us all happily entertained so bring it on!

And finally, it’s always important to remember, you are a Mary I student. The person living with you, sat next to you, roaring like a fog-horn in the computer lab (oh, the annoyance) is a Mary I student. Hopefully, you know the person living with you but quite possibly you don’t know the person sitting beside you nor you may not know the mega annoyance of "OMG, Justin Bieber just grew a pubic hair" blab of your one chatting in the computer lab, but they are, just like me and just like you, Mary I students. Whether people look different then us, act different then us or, are just plainly the opposite ends of the world to us, we are all still in the same boat of rocky exam stress. The next while is going to be exam manic major so hey, just look after each other!

Merry Christmas, Happy Exams, Rock n Roll and oh hell ya-bring on 2012!!
