Kathy Casey, BEd

Kathy Casey
B.Ed, 2006 - 2009

Kathy tells of thr trials & tribulations of her three years on the BEd in Mary I.

I had always wanted to be a teacher so I was delighted to begin my B. Ed course in Mary I. I didn’t know too many people starting out, but I soon made loads of friends. The events during orientation week were fun because I got to meet lots of other students in the same boat, and some of these went on to be my best friends. I had an interest in musicals so I joined MIDAS during clubs and socs week.  It was brilliant being a member of a society because it was another great way to make friends doing something I loved and was a worthwhile activity for my spare time.

The course proved really interesting. I was kept bust with assignments and micro teaching during the first semester. As the years progressed, we completed Teaching Practices for the middle classes, infants, senior classes and home TP in third year. While testing and challenging, these were, for me, the most exciting part of the course because I really got a taste for my future profession and got a chance to apply all the skills and methodologies I had been leaning in lectures.
The friends I made, the craic we had and the nights out really made Mary I some of the best years of my life and I would recommend to anyone who wants a memorable, fun college experience teamed with a highly recognised degree to choose Mary I!
