Limerick Institute of Technology’s Audio Video Department have decided to promote video production in the mid-west region of Ireland with the 3rd Annual Film Festival, running from 26th to 28th April 2012.

This is the brainchild of Assistant Lecturer, Simon McGuire, who believes that this type of festival and competition give second and third level students as well as other film makers a chance to show off their talents to industry professionals, their peers and families with the latest technology available.

After the success of the first two years of the Festival, it was decided to focus the festival to a series of events targeting the future of the industry. Consisting of an exhibition of Professional equipment and industry, workshops by industry professionals, film viewings and an awards night for the film competition. Last year the competition open to the general public as well as students from third level institutions from around the country. This year the competition is also open to second level students who are creating their own videos either in class or in their spare time.

As in previous years we believe that the festival should be a festival and not just a competition. The judging panel will consist of members of the professional media industry representing both technical and creative areas. As well as their role of judging they are also being asked to give keynote talks or workshops to students, on current work practices and industry standards as well as discuss new technologies and equipment.

The venue will be at the Millennium Theatre at Limerick Institute of Technology and the lecturing staff of the Audio and Video Department as well as the Video and Sound students will be looking after the running of this three-day event.
