What makes a good super fan?

- Wirtten by Joanne Tierney

I’ll start by saying that this is a follow up to my last piece and yes I have to confess that it offers me an excuse to talk about my favourite band! Seeing Royseven again on Thursday got me thinking about this question. I always thought that it involved a number of factors. Liking the band is obviously a good place to start but I think it also includes knowing all their songs, how well you know them, if you’ve met them (although not always obligatory) and if you’ve got band related stuff! So bearing all that in mind let me tell you how much I love Royseven!

The Hitch-hikers Guide to the IFTAs

(The alternative view)

By Eleanor McSherry

We have all heard and read the stories from the IFTAs last weekend but I want to offer an alternative view, a fly-on-the-wall piece, so to speak.

You can imagine my delight last Friday when I got a call to go to the IFTAs and for ‘free’ no less.  My good friend Maeve McGrath (esteemed Limerick television, theatre and film actress/producer/director and all round good egg) had a spare ticket thanks to City Jet on Twitter.  This was most excellent considering that the tickets for the show were €250 each, even if you were nominated.  It was strictly ‘black-tie’ for the men and long floor length dresses for the ladies.  So I went and dusted-off the auld best ‘guna’ for the occasion.

Outtakes, blooper and gag reels!

- Written by Joanne Tierney

When I buy a new DVD, go home unwrap that annoying cling film plastic, open the box I invariably choose the special features disc. Why, I hear you ask? The special features disc shows me how the movie came to life and also like watching the blooper reels, and in my own personal opinion they can be quite entertaining!

Things NOT TO DO when you meet your favourite band

-written by Joanne Tierney

So apparently today is ‘Blue Monday’, so to try lighten the mood and put a smile on your faces I thought I’d give a few small pointers of things not to do when you meet your favourite band. So I present to you, Mary I:

Things NOT TO DO when you meet your favourite band:

1. Be random
2. Lose the ability to master the English language in front of them
3. Repeat the same sentence constantly (falls into the same rule as no. 2)
4. Respond to the question:  “how are ya?” with a meek little “hi”
5. Let your hat fall off, not notice, and have one of the members to pick it one for you
6. Let your knees turn to jelly
7. Try not to embarrass yourself in front of them
8. Write an article for the MISU website the Monday after the event has occurred

Bye now!
