International Students

“Well, some say it rains here - so much that you could drown, some say the Irish speak so fast you don't get them, some say leprechauns are hidden in bushes, well yes! - except for the leprechauns that is. But it is worth taking the risk to get soaked or to ask someone to repeat the same thing 10,000 times, for the warm welcome you receive makes up for the weather. I had a wonderful, unforgettable time here - both with international and Irish people who soon became my friends. All seems just so easy, feels so right here !! Walk through Mary I, or into a pub and you are sure to find amazing lads and create memorable memories which you'll carry with you, wherever you go. And each time you'll pass by an Irish pub back home, all these memories with stand right in front of you, stare right into your eyes and say: 'Now, it's time to come back and have some more craic.'” Agathe (Reims)
  •   “When I think back of my four month Erasmus period in Limerick I can only smile. I've had a fantastic time, and by the time I had to leave Ireland I would have rather stayed. I made some amazing friends from all over the world, not only Ireland but France, America, Spain, Germany, Sweden and many other countries as well. This partly thanks to the International Student Society (ISS) of the Mary I, for and by International students.  I can only say that in my opinion, Mary I looked after us very well. The courses were clear, interesting and sometimes difficult, and the tInternational Studentseachers are glad to help with anything if needed. We even asked one of them give a tour of Limerick, and he did it for free!  As for courses, I would highly recommend "Irish for Beginners", a course especially for the internationals. It's a crash course in Gaelic, and you might pick up some nice sentences. It's good craic! Normally I'm not a big fan of any societies or clubs, but I can't really see the ISS as one, because the 'leaders' only do it for one semester, as they are internationals as well, and normal clubs and socs don't have as many outings and trips as we did! We saw a great deal of Ireland and I loved it! Ireland is a beautiful country with a lot of nature, rain (so bring your rain coats) and pubs. I'm already planning to return to see some more of the country and maybe visit some friends. From Limerick there are many buses going to Cork, Waterford, Dublin, Galway and other places, so it's easy to visit other cities for a day or a weekend! The social life is great, especially when you are with a large group of people who all live on the same campus (which I did). I would highly recommend 'Dolans pub' with its traditional music and great atmosphere, also Charlie Malones' pub and everyone should visit Molly's (a club) at least once. There are a lot of other pubs and clubs there, but you'll have to visit them yourself and draw your own opinion of them. Anyone going to Mary I for a semester or a year, I am very jealous and hope you have a lot of fun!” Elleke (Nijmegen)

  •  ''My main desire to study at Mary I was to get in touch with my Irish heritage. Subjects such as Leann Duchais and Gaeilge ab Initio have helped me to do just this. The standard of lecturing is exceptional and my involvement at Wiredfm has been invaluable, nice one guys. I know I will be taking some wonderful memories and some great friends back to England. Thanks a million lads!" Laurie (Bath)
