Out of hours service (weekends and after 6pm)


Students who need to see a doctor out of hours (after 6pm and at weekends) should contact Shannon Doc on 1850 212999
Students who need urgent medical attention should proceed to the Casualty Department at South Tipperary General Hospital, Clonmel which provides 24-hour cover. Contact 052 6177000.
In the event of a medical emergency out-of-hours, please contact 999 and ask for ambulance services.

The ALC is a drop-in service for students who are seeking advice or help on any aspect of learning at MIC

 

Opening Hours: Mondays 10am –1pm and 2–5pm.

Examples of services offered include:
• Tips on essay writing i.e. layout and referencing.
• Tips and guidance on time management (so you’re not spending your day on Facebook).
• General advice on completing assignments like how to put together a presentation for class etc.
• You can also hand in an essay to them for a second opinion before you submit it (provided you allow a few days before the actual due date).

How to see a doctor:

  1. Meet with a nurse between 10am and 12pm. (Always go early to ensure that you will get an appointment.)
  2. The nurse will book an appointment for you.
  3. Return at your given time for your appointment with a doctor.

Fees

MIC Medical Centre visits cost €10. Medical Card holders must bring their current Medical Card or else they will have to pay the fee of €10.

 

Weekend and After Hours

Weekend and after hours cover is not provided by the MIC Medical Centre and students who need medical treatment during such periods should proceed to their own G.P.

 

Out of hours

Shannondoc - 1850 212 999  The cost of this service is not covered by MIC

Students who need urgent medical treatment should proceed to the A&E Dept. at Limerick Regional Hospital Tel: 061-301111 which provides 24hr cover or to St. John’s Hospital Tel 061 415822 which is open from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday.

 

What happens if appointments are all filled?

If all appointments are filled at the medical centre, a doctor will see you guys specifically in the New Street Medical Centre at a reduced cost of 30 euro when, or during semester break times.
